My parents made summer vacations a priority for my siblings and I when we were young. And while many times, our highlight reel looked similar to that of National Lampoon's Vacation, they were always memorable. Looking back, I don't think us kids realized how lucky we were to see so much at such young ages.
We recently returned home from our annual trip to Arizona after visiting my retired-living-the-dream parents. And wow, guys... So many things I learned this time. Like how naive I was to think that traveling without my husband, and with two children (one under the age of one) would be just fine. Thankfully I was able to escape one evening while spending some time getting to know this super sweet couple, Logan and Riley. We watched the sun fall beneath the sky as the most gigantic, brightly lit moon took over.
A sweet Daddy + Me photo session in the heart of Wisconsin's Fall season. I can't believe I've been photographing this little love and her dad for five years now! So much fun to see her blossom into this beautiful young lady!
I would be lying if I didn't say Megan + Tyler's wedding at the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall was the highlight of my wedding season. It was totally the highlight of my wedding season. My first international destination wedding... My first time visiting Jamaica... And over my birthday weekend... With my husband... Away from the kids... To say that we had an incredible time would be an understatement.
I really can't explain the high I felt after shooting this session. It came at a time when I needed peace in my life, and for some reason, documenting others is when I feel most at ease. We added another beautiful boy to our family this year, and while he has been such a huge blessing in our lives, I completely underestimated what going from one child to two would really be like.
Being it feels like it's -20 here in Wisconsin, it's only fitting I share this Jamaican engagement session with you. My husband and I had the golden opportunity to tag along with Megan + Tyler this past October and document their destination wedding - in Montego Bay, Jamaica. YEAH. MON. I love this country. We will certainly be back again.
I recently had the honor of photographing Theresa + Erin's intimate northwoods elopement. Theresa and Erin are the creative photography duo behind Hello Little. And because their words sum up their day so much better than mine ever could...
You get to hear it straight from the Rouse Wives //
"On August 11th, in the privacy of a random jungle off the beaten path in a public park, we got married. It was quite literally a perfect day..."
You are the sweetest gift and I adore you.
You are a bright young girl and the whole world is in front of you.
Take things as they come and you will weather well.
Be brave and strong and free.
Keep your eyes and ears and heart wide open.
Look for the goodness all around you.
And when you feel small in this great big world, be still.
Think of your beautiful roots.
They are deep and true and will allow you to stretch far.
So go into the world and let your little light shine.
And always remember you are loved and blessed and the littlest one that ever stole my heart.
army guys and matchbox cars.
ninja turtles and star wars.
chocolate ice cream, and anything sweet.
no shoes, no shirt, and dirty feet.
late nights and crabby mornings.
no naps and little warning.
Give me the messy wind blown hair that has spent all day soaking up sunshine. Give me the dirty little fingernails that love nothing better than to dig deep into imagination. Give me the tiny stinky feet that are running wild as they lead her to her curiosities. Give me clothing that has seen better days but speaks volumes of adventure. Give me a heart that only knows love, and is eight times bigger than her ever-growing body. Give me the loud contagious belly laughter... Her tiny voice that fills the air with the most fascinating and absurd stories.
I shot this session for a beautiful friend just over a year ago - before I became pregnant with our sweet little man, Indie. Dylan, our only child at the time was three and a half. He's my world. My heart. My everything. It's hard to remember what life was like before he joined our little tribe. Justin and I had always imagined our family with two children. Maybe three if I caught him a few PBRs in, but we always wanted two. While we didn't plan to space them this far apart, we didn't not plan to either.
